Breast Lift Overview
Breast lift operation is a surgical procedure performed to treat breasts that have become sagging due to reasons such as weight loss, gravity, aging, and pregnancy/breastfeeding.
Sagging caused by loss of tissue elasticity brings great destruction in terms of self-confidence and also affects the proportions of the body. In addition to aesthetic concerns, frequent sweating of the under-breast due to excess skin triggers the formation of heat rash.
The breast lift, which allows all these problems to be eliminated, is completed in 2 to 4 hours under general anesthesia.
Breast Lift Technics
Lollipop Technique: In this method, excess skin in the lower part of the sagging breast is removed and the remaining part is reshaped. In breast lift operations performed with the lollipop method, there’s a risk of pot formation in the areas where the incision is made. Sometimes these pots disappear spontaneously, sometimes they require a new surgical procedure.
Benelli/Nipple Technique: In the nipple technique with the lowest risk of scarring, an incision is made around the nipple. The sagging parts of the breast are removed, and the nipple is taken a few inches up. The stitches are made in the brown part outside the nipple. There’s a potential of scarring but it becomes invisible in a short time.
This method is generally performed for patients whose breast loses elasticity.
“T” Technique: With this method, an inverted T-shaped incision is made in the lower part of the breast and the excess tissue is removed. The“T” technique is ideal for eliminating severe breast sagging.
Whichever technique is used, if the breast is larger than it should be, excess tissue is removed. However, if the breast is small, it is brought to the form it should be with silicone support. The most suitable method for the patient is determined by the surgeon.
Before Breast Lift
For this reason, many people who aren’t satisfied with the breast shape desire to undergo this operation. As a result, this operation is performed in many clinics to meet the demand. At this point, the patient needs to act selectively and decide on the surgeon and clinic after detailed research. Thus, the risks related to complications such as bleeding, infection, swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, delayed healing, breast asymmetry, and tissue loss can be eliminated by choosing the right surgeon and clinic.
Before the operation, various tests are performed to determine the suitability of the patient. In this process, for patients over the age of 40, full breast scanning with breast ultrasonography and mammography is performed.
The points that patients should pay attention to before the operation are as follows:
- Smoking and alcohol should be stopped for 2 weeks, as it prolongs the healing process and increases the risk of infection.
- Medicines with blood-thinning functions such as aspirin should be stopped for 3 weeks.
- In case the surgeon advises patients to stop taking medicines used regularly, this advice should be followed.
- The surgeon should be informed of chronic diseases and previous operations.
- When determining the day of the operation, it is wiser for the patient to choose a suitable date that can rest between 3 and 5 days after the breast lift procedure.
After Breast Lift
After breast lift, patients usually can go home on the same day. If the hospitalization is needed, the staying duration is 1 night.
Slight tingling may be felt for several days following the operation. Similarly, patients can feel pain especially when using the arms, it’s important not to tire the body in this process. Also, swelling and bruising may occur around the breast. Complete recovery takes an average of 6 months.
Much attention should be paid to the surgeon’s recommendations after the operation. This speeds up the recovery process considerably.
The patient should follow the following recommendations:
- The breast should be protected from pressure and impact.
- Sleeping should be in a supine or semi-sitting position.
- Alcohol and cigarette shouldn’t be used for 2 weeks.
- Healthy nutrition and water consumption should be provided.
- Shower shouldn’t be taken for the first 3 days.
- Sports bra or medical corset should be used for 4 weeks.
- Strenuous activities should be avoided for 1 month.
- Sea, pool, Turkish bath, sauna shouldn’t be visited for 1 month.
- Prescribed medicines should be used regularly.
