Breast Augmentation Overview

Breast augmentation is the surgical process performed to improve the breasts in terms of shape or size.

This surgical procedure offers long-lasting results when compared to some cosmetic products and push-up bras that provide temporary solutions. Also, having fuller and aesthetic breasts, which are the providers of the feminine appearance, is only possible with breast augmentation.

This Operation takes 1-2 hours and it requires general anesthesia. And this procedure is performed through two different techniques.

Breast Augmentation Methods: Prosthesis or Fat Injection?

Breast augmentation is carried out with two techniques. These can be used alone or combined when the patient needs and the surgeon approves it.

Let’s take a closer look at breast augmentation techniques:

Prosthesis (breast implant): Prostheses produced in different diameters and with different materials don’t cause an artificial appearance. Especially, round and drop-shaped prostheses were developed to provide a realistic appearance and feel. Besides, the new silicone prosthesis adheres to the tissues inside the breast with its lumpy structure and doesn’t cause any health problems with harmless materials used as filling even if damage occurs.

The surgeon chooses the prosthesis by accounting into the patient’s desire, appearance, and body type. However, the most advantageous side of the prosthesis is that it changes the shape of the breast dramatically. This means that the patient can get the desired change in a single operation. Besides, incisions and stitches are made during the operation, however, the scars are unlikely to be visible as they remain under the breast.

Also, if breast augmentation is performed through prostheses, and the patient doesn’t have enough fat tissue or the chest area is bony, fat injection is performed in addition to the prosthesis.

Fat Injection: With this technique, which involves transferring the fat taken from the person’s body by the liposuction method, to the breast area, without a foreign body; natural growth is achieved without making cuts and stitches.

Thanks to the breast augmentation with fat injection, both the regions where the fats are gathered become thinner and the breasts get fuller appearance: Thus, it’s an advantageous operation for people suffering from regional fats. Moreover, the complication risk is low for being used one’s body fat, and the procedure promises a comfortable and safe process.

Despite its advantages, breast augmentation with fat injection doesn’t offer radical results; the breasts grow to 1-2 sizes and if more growth is desired, prostheses should be preferred.

Before the Operation

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that requires a serious medical approach and expertise. Regardless of which method is performed, the procedure should be managed by an experienced surgeon. Also, the surgeon should benefit from innovations in the medical field and offer the patient a complete and safe treatment. Receiving a successful treatment is possible only in this way.

That’s why the patient should choose the surgeon and clinic after detailed online research. Besides, the risks such as bleeding, infection, late recovery, swelling, and redness that may develop can be minimized by choosing the right surgeon.

Apart from this choice, the actions that the patient should take to have smooth and comfortable breast augmentation are as follows:

  • Smoking and alcohol use should be stopped at least 2 weeks before the operation.

  • The heavy dish shouldn’t be consumed 1 night before.

  • The surgeon should be informed about chronic diseases and medicines used.

  • The surgeon should be informed about previous surgeries, if any.

  • Taking any supplements and medicines with blood-thinning function should be stopped.

After the Operation

It may be necessary to stay in the hospital for 1 night after the operation. However, many surgeons allow their patients to go home. In this process, mild pain and heaviness may be felt in the chest area.

The surgeon may advise using a medical corset or sports bra during the recovery to support the operated area. However, the final result appears within 6 months.

The precautions are as follows:

  • The breasts should be protected from any impact.

  • A healthy diet and water consumption should be provided.

  • Shower can be taken 3 days after the operation without rubbing.
